Honeywell has earned the order to supply turbochargers for the production of the Volkswagen 1.5L TDI Dynamo. The brand opened its diesel engine assembly plant in Chakan, Maharashtra this January 2015. Volkswagen mentioned not to compromise on quality which is why there was a lag in introduction of locally produced engines in the first place.  Off the 29 components, a major part is the turbocharger and Honeywell is the basic deliver of the locally manufactured turbocharger that goes into this engine.

Customized in Pune near to the Volkswagen plant, Honeywell has now earned its third big turbocharger order recently. The biggest one from Honda diesel engine that goes into the Amaze, City and Mobilio and would also be powering the upcoming new generation Jazz. Last year, Honeywell introduced its first locally manufactured turbocharger for a petrol car when it bagged the Tata contract for the Revotron engine.

With Volkswagen in the kitty as well, Honeywell tells confirmed that the company has manufactured over one million turbochargers in India for Indian cars. The Volkswagen deal will now mean that the Polo, Vento and Skoda Rapid sport this turbocharger. Volkswagen is also thinking to present the sub 4-metre sedan based on the Vento. This model would also use the same dynamo and hence the same turbocharger.

The turbocharger in the Volkswagen engine utilizes Honeywell’s variable nozzle technology that produces a flatter force with a wider power band. This provides the engine horizontal delivery in place of the sudden surge of force when the turbo powers in.

The manufacturers present lesser engines in the market and the life of an engine is greater than the car itself. This predicts content business for parts manufacturers once the car manufacturer deals with the supplier.
