Shell opens first research centre in China

The new centre will focus directly on the development of lubricant product and application for china and the wider Asia region covering countries like India, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Shell a global group of energy and petrochemical companies has opened a new technology centre in Shanghai, China which has been built in order to research and development for lubricants and oil. The new centre will focus directly on the development of lubricant product and application for china and the wider Asia region covering countries like India, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The new centre located at Shanghai Zhangjiang High-Tech Park, spread across 8,600 sq mtr of area having 9 story building which will cover the wide range of product applications comprising motorcycle oils, passenger car motor oils, transmission fluids, heavy duty engine oils, as well as industrial and specialty oils and greases. This facility will also cover oils for shipping sector.

Matthias Bichsel, Shell's Projects & Technology Director, said, "The Shanghai facility will proudly bring Shell's technology leadership even closer to customers and partners in the region. Shell has long been at the forefront of lubricant science and technology. We recognize that better oils and greases can lead to energy savings and improved machine performance."

This centre will become a part of Shell’s network of lubricants laboratories, working together with the other two countries, in Houston, USA and Hamburg, Germany. These are part of 10 centre having strong global network of shell R&D centres.
