The news has been confirmed by the Minister of State for Heavy Industries, GM Siddheshwara. He has replied in writing, at the Lok Sabha that the Govt. is not looking at introducing a legislation to make vehicle recall mandatory, if 100 or more people complain about the same defect in any vehicle.

Unexpectedly, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the draft Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015 had proposed a mandatory recall policy for vehicles, keeping the safety of vehicle users in mind.

It is still quite uncertain why the government does not want to pass this rule, as the decision would be left with the manufacturers according to their discretion. In the draft bill produced earlier, it was mentioned that the manufacturer would pay for the damages for the consumer. As of now the companies have been recalling the vehicles on their wish in case of a defect or a fault. But would have been really fair, if the Govt. intervened the process, as the consumers who are innocent while paying their hard earned money and not getting the due. But needless to say.
