Maruti at present is leading, if we talk about fuel efficiency with its products like Dzire 2015, with 26.59km/l and the new Ciaz doing a 26.21 km/l. But is has to be noted that the diesel engines in these cars are carried out from Fiat. Maruti makes use of the 1.3L Sourced out MultiJet engine. The brand plans to start up with manufacturing 1 lakh units annually of this diesel engine, prior to expand its production and its utilization in other vehicles.

After the introduction on a passenger model, the engine would be clad in Maruti’s LCV for the local market, which is nicknamed ‘Y9T’. Once on roads, the car would have to compete with the Hyundai Grand i10 and Chevrolet Beat Diesel models. Estimated at INR 4.6-5.7 lakhs, to be put on the roads in the next couple of months.
