Automatic Transmission cars

Automatic transmission helps in automatic shifting of gears according to the need of the vehicle during the run with no clutch plate mechanism and no clutch pedal.

Motor vehicle transmission system that changes the gear ratio automatically when the vehicle moves that lets the driver carefree about changing of gear and pressing the clutch pedal. Automatic Transmission vehicles include a torque converter that provides a variable gearing from the engine to the wheels.

Automatic transmission system has become very popular since 1990s in Asian and Australian market.  With the increment in the traffic system nowadays, people are switching to small cars with automatic system also by sacrificing on the mileage. This system consists of automatic transfer modes on a lever that is placed either on the floor of the instrument panel and ordered as P-R-N-D. This pattern is either top to bottom, left to right or in clockwise direction.

P (park): The output shaft gets blocked in this mode resisting any movement of the vehicle in any direction. The non-driven wheels may rotate in this case but the engine driven wheels gets locked up preventing the vehicle to roll.

R (reverse): Switching on this mode permits the vehicle to be driven backward also backlights gets switched on which improves the visibility behind the vehicle.

N (neutral): All the gears twins get disengaged from the transmission. The vehicle will move freely under its own gravity.

D (Drive): Transmission is engaged to the full range of forward gear ratios that are available. This mode allows the vehicle to move forward.

Advantages of Automatic Transmission System:

  • Easy to operate
  • Have high resale value
  • Good if talking about stop and go traffic
  • Accurate power at accurate timing
  • Safe to drive
  • Less driving skill is required
  • Lasts longer compared to any other transmission

Disadvantages of Automatic Transmission System:

  • Energy efficiency is low
  • Less fuel economy
  • Costs higher compared to the same manual transmission variant
  • Higher repair cost
  • Start-up due to depleted batteries is a big problem.

In automatic transmission system Driver does not have the liberty to choose the gear if he/she wants to play with the vehicle in a sporty manner. Driving comfort and convenience with luxury can be found in Automatic transmission cars.

Matured Indian customers are looking forward for the automatic transmission cars among the crowded cities. The left leg feels relaxed with single leg in use. VG (Variable Geometry) engines provide enough power to fill the gap of drop in fuel mileage. The power delivery is smooth in case of automatic transmission.
